The top aircraft is a B-17. Still a beautiful machine. It and the P-51 made a formidable pair over Europe. Great photos, Bogus. Thanks!

Dammit, that's what I get doing insomniac posting.  I should have more carefully proofread the first post, knowing that I have this weird little brain fart between those two aircraft.  For some unknown reason, without thinking I tend to call the B-17 "B-29" and vice versa.  Anyway, thanks for the catch and I'm glad you liked the photos.  I've got some more that I'll post later.

Would love to see more pics. A buddy is a mechanic and does parts fabrication for the Commemorative Air Force. I will take some photos of their planes next time I get an invite to the airfield. I believe they have just acquired a Corsair!

This is my big beautiful baby that I worked on  for many years. Good ole Fred, as we affectionately called it. The C-5. It dwarfs all those parked around it. This was 9002. Great aircraft!

Very cool, mud.  I've never seen a C-5 in person except for the occasional chance sighting of one heading to/from McDill.  If I'm not being out of line, what kind of work did you do on "Fred?"  Did you do general aircraft maintenance or did you work on a specific area like engines or avionics, etc.?

Hi Bones,  If you already have some past photos of Commemorative Air Force planes I'd love to see those.  Post 'em here if you like.

Here's the second set of B-17 photos, when it returned from its passenger ride flight.

I was an avionics tech. However, when they emptied the shops to the flight line, I learned hydraulics and crew chief duties as well. I flew as a maintenance crew member. I got to see a lot of this world and loved what I was doing. Aircraft are my first love. The B17 photos are awesome! As I advanced in my career, I became the Production Supervisor for the flight line. LOVED my job! That makes me very fortunate. We called our C5s Fred. We had a saying: FRED-EX: When you don't care WHAT time it gets there!

Hey Y'all,

Here is the link to my buddy's CAF wing:

http://dixiewing.org/aircraft.htm

It shows the collection of awesome planes including a Mustang, a Corsair, and a Dauntless. I'll take some more current pics the next time I visit the airfield.

In Houston here a couple of months now, a teammate who flies himself suggested the Houston Airshow this past weekend.

I went for a few hours Sunday, and sorry I did not show up earlier.  I will probably never have the head to identify one plane from another as you all are able to, for the most part, but enjoyed the show, and the history that was given also.

Was not just American planes flown - there was a Zero being flown also, among not sure what else.  They had also the 'dog fights', and what I missed just getting there was an enactment, I think, of Tora Tora.

Oh, Wings over Houston it was called.  Figure to go again, if around.  Unfortunately, camera battery died not long after I got there.
