I'm in a bit of a panic right now because my brother is smack in the middle of Ground Zero on the NC coast; Ocean Isle Beach.  I spoke to him yesterday and he was still dithering (!) despite my pleas, but now he may have no choice in the matter; mandatory evacs being called.  I'm madly texting him today but no response so far; hopefully he's prepping or on the road.

Watch this one...looks bad.  If you're there, don't chance it.  Time and life experience has given me great respect for hurricanes...and govt. warnings.

Ocean Isle Beach is under a state of emergency due to hurricane Florence. There has been a mandatory evacuation for all visitors and vacationers by 5pm, Tuesday - September 11th. All property owners and residents are under a mandatory evacuation by 5pm Wednesday - September 12th.

Please check the OIB government website before returning to the island as we do not know yet when the island will reopen.

Yes, very scary.  Florence is shaping up to hit the coast as a cat 4 or 5 hurricane.  I hope your brother is prepping and getting on the road out of there.

I'm not talking about global warming I'm talking about blaming the President for everything that happens after disaster. They will be calling it Trumps Katrina. He be blamed for every moron who gets stranded because they thought they could ride out a massive powerful hurricane. And of course they will be sympathizing with the looters too.

You want to take that bet? Because I know hatelful liberals and the MSM media better than they know themselves.

Good grief. I think everybody and their brother has driven to Graham, N.C. for shelter from this storm! Traffic has gotten ridiculous in my little town.

My drive to Greensboro on I-40 this morning was wall to wall and down right scary. People drive like morons as it is without a hurricane bearing down on us.

Now it is just pure insanity.

Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) praised President Trump's actions ahead of Hurricane Florence on America's Newsroom on Wednesday.

The Category 4 storm is expected to make landfall along the eastern U.S. coast on Thursday. It could potentially stall along the southeastern coast upon making landfall, bringing prolonged wind and rain.

Jeff Byard, FEMA's associate administrator for the Office of Response and Recovery, said on Wednesday that the hurricane could pack "a Mike Tyson punch to the Carolina coast."

Burr commended President Trump's signing of emergency orders in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virgina, the three states expected to be the most heavily-affected by Florence.

What area do you live in? Is it near the coast?

I feel for you because living in Florida most of my life I have been through my share of them. I have a routine down now. I keep my precut plywood for my windows and number them for which windows they go on. Keep a generator and an extra propane tank too.

People do go crazy. Even more nowadays with the 24/7 news trying to scare the shit out of everyone. Sounds to me like flooding is going to be the biggest problem. I wouldn't want to be in Smokies either when this storm starts dumping rain there.

Good luck.

Sounds like the lack of common sense runs in the family.

Don't want to wait till the last minute to get out. Its a given that gas stations will run out gas and you can easily get stranded because of that. Hurricane Charley hit our west coast down near Ft Pierce which is hundreds of miles away from me. Nobody prepared for it here because of the distance. However when it got here it was still strong enough to strip my roof of shingles, blow down my stockade fence, and break some windows.

Hopefully you hear from him soon.

Quick update; spoke with my brother yesterday...he of course left with the dog, and is with his son & family just outside of DC (suburban VA). Sounded cool calm and collected, but that's just him - he doesn't 'rattle' easily. Had to laugh..called and said "thought I better call you before you had the Big One" (heart attack) based on my texting blizzard. Said, "You've turned into Mom". It's true.

This is good.  My god daughter's employer came home with 24 bottles of water... they're now prepared to ride out the storm.  I could, literally, hear my god daughters eyes roll through messenger.

I live in the Burlington-Graham area, about 45 minutes west of Raleigh.  We are experiencing gusty winds right now.  Not much rain yet.  That is said to be coming later tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.  Biggest worry are flash floods and trees coming down.  I already had water standing in my backyard from rain before this hurricane.  We don't really need any more water. That makes for more trees to come down in these gusts of 40-50 mph.

'Super typhoon' far more powerful than Florence hurtling towards millions

An "extremely dangerous" super typhoon predicted to be the one of the strongest systems on record is tearing towards Hong Kong and the Philippines with up to 43 million people in the firing line.

Bureau of Meteorology Australia tropical climatologist Greg Browning told news.com.au Typhoon Mangkhut was equivalent to a Category 5 severe tropical cyclone. Boasting maximum sustained winds of 205km/h and gusts to 285km/h, it's "significantly stronger" than Hurricane Florence which is simultaneously hurtling towards the US.

Well it turned out my post above was right on the money. Of course it is not very hard to figure out what liberals will do. Good thing none of you liberals took me up on my bet. Well so much for the hype that this will be one of the worse storms in American History.

MEDIA POLITICIZE FLORENCE, BLAME TRUMP FOR STORMS, PREDICT MASS DEATH

Trump is ‘actively making the problem worse’

Hurricane Florence is now bearing down on North Carolina, and the media is looking to score political points.

On MSNBC, host Chris Hayes invited meteorologist Eric Holthaus on to argue global warming is making hurricanes worse, and that President Trump is to blame.

"We have a president that is denying the impacts of, you know, this hurricane season last year and this year and actively making the problem worse by, you know, not addressing this root cause of worsening storms,” Holthaus told to a nodding Hayes.

On CNN, political analyst John Avlon, in a segment titled "Reality Check," suggested Trump is at fault for Hurricane Florence, and that his climate policies could kill up to 80,000 people per decade.

"This isn’t rocket science, it is climate science," he concluded. "As long as we continue to aggressively ignore it, the cost in lives and dollars will escalate. That’s your reality check."

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-45532217

Some 14 people have been killed in a massive storm which brought destruction to the northern Philippines, a presidential adviser says.

Typhoon Mangkhut ripped through the Philippines' main island of Luzon, and is now moving west towards China.

The storm tore off roofs, felled trees, triggered 42 landslides and caused extensive flooding.

Mangkhut unleashed winds of 185km/h (115mph) as it careered from east to west across the north of Luzon.

Five million people were in its path, and thousands were evacuated.
How bad is the damage?

Almost all buildings in the city of Tuguegarao - the capital city of the north-eastern Cagayan province - sustained some damage, a government official said, and communications were down in places.

Francis Tolentino, a political adviser to President Rodrigo Duterte, said up to 14 people were killed as a result of the storm.

Two rescuers died trying to help people trapped in a landslide. Unverified reports say the body of a young girl was found in the Marikina river, which flows through Manila.
The mayor of the Baguio City said five people were killed there. Mauricio Domogan told CNN Philippines a similar number were also missing and the sewerage system was being overwhelmed by the floodwaters.

The evacuation centre in the coastal town of Aparri is said to have been destroyed and phone networks are down.

BBC correspondent Jonathan Head, who is in Luzon, saw 200 people who had taken shelter in one school being re-evacuated because a dyke holding back a swollen river was about to burst.

The full cost of Typhoon Mangkhut on one of the country's most important food-producing regions cannot yet be assessed, he says.

The typhoon recalls memories of the deadliest storm on record in the Philippines - Super Typhoon Haiyan in 2013 - which killed more than 7,000. However, preparation and evacuation procedures have been improved since then.

Well, it's supposed to be so much worse than Florence, which was supposed to be as bad as Irma, which we all know 'killed' 3000 people, so why wouldn't this horrible, way-way worse Typhoon kill more?
