Their stories are so similar, one wonders if it is an analogy at all.  It is perhaps one of the greatest analogies of all time.

There are so many similarities.

Please feel free to add more.

THE ANALOGY AND JESUS AND SANTA

Both characters are based on real people from the past.

Both are said to do mystical things for which there is no physical proof.

The majority of adults in the world don't believe in either.  The world is about 32% christians (http://www.age-of-the-sage.org/mysticism/world_religions_populations.html) , so nearly 70% of adults don't believe in Jesus, which not far off from the number of adults who dont believe in St. Nick.

They both wore robes.

Neither had siblings

They were both forces of good, with essentially a "naughty and nice" list, with consequences for being either.

They both had a group who followed and supported them (apostles and elves).

They can both literally be everywhere in the world in a single night.. no problem.

Neither had kids

They were both big gift givers

The Bishop St. Nicholas spent his life helping the needy and underprivileged

St Nicholas was born in the middle east just like Jesus

Stories of St. Nicholas miracles and help for the poor spread throughout the middle east and grew...sound familiar???

Beards!!

I think the only place where the analogy falls apart is the different colored robes and the body weight.  Don't you agree Tomas?

Best analogy perhaps ever.  Tomas agrees.

I have to thank Tomas for pointing out another great similarity in this analogy.

There are millions of adults who believed in both Jesus and Santa as a child but when they grow up they no longer believe.

This is a SUPERFICIAL examination and INCORRECT. Simply wanting that outcome from the outset doesn't make it so.

Perhaps you don't know the meaning of "analogy". Perhaps you should look it up and we can continue.

"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment."  Ill help.

Analogy (Webster) A comparison of like features between two things.

You disagree Jesus had a beard?  That is a like feature

They reportedly both wore robes...a like feature.  I could go but you have seen all the like features already.

Don't take it personally, there is simply a very strong analogy of many like features.

Analogy is a comparison to something. I stand by my earlier comment.

Similarity does not establish equal credibility or not.
